Here is what I watched for week 1.  Not a bad run, seeing as how I had to travel for work and we celebrated my wife’s birthday last night.

The Wolf Man (1941, 70m)
Total Points: 3 (Antagonist attacks under darkness)
A classic, and a very common inclusion at our house this time of year.  This belongs in every horror fan’s collection.
9/10

Halloween (1978, 91m)
Total Points: 2
Another classic viewing this time of year.  Carpenter paved the way for one of my favorite periods in horror, the slasher craze of the 80s.
10/10

Halloween II (1981, 92m)
Total Points: 2
I’m a big fan of this sequel, especially the way it picks up right where the first left off.  It doesn’t have the same charm or power as the first, but it is still a good movie.
8/10

Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015, 89m)
Total Points: 5 (Antagonist attacks under darkness (Vlad & Bela), Bat startles someone, Hidden Passages(Inside Drac’s Bedroom))
I really liked the first movie with all of it’s homages to our beloved genre.  The second was pretty good, with a bit more of a message this time around, but still plenty of jokes.
6.5/10

The Descent (2005, 99m)
Total Points: 6 (ATB: Finale takes place in Cavern)
This is one of the best horror movies of the last decade.  It’s claustrophobic and tense before the monsters show up, and then it moves quickly into a terrifying fight for survival.
9.5/10

Blade II (2002, 117m)
Total Points: 6 (ATB: Monster destroyed by Sunlight)
I’m a fan of the Blade series, especially this entry.  The cast is strong and there are some really interesting characters.
7/10

Blade: Trinity (2004, 113m)
Total Points: 6 (ATB: Monster destroyed by Sunlight)
On one hand, I love Ryan Reynolds.  This is basically an audition for his future role as Deadpool (the upcoming movie).  On the other, the story is pretty weak.  I think that there were just too many things going on.  I liked the Dracula storyline, but there was just too many distractions.
6/10

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995, 92m)
Total Points: 4 (Takes place in a mine, Antagonist attacks under darkness)
This is such a fun movie.  Billy Zane kills it as The Collector, setting the tone for the entire movie.  Plenty of gore and plenty of laughs.  Recommended viewing.
8/10

The Gate (1987, 85m)
Total Points: 3 (Monster under the Bed)
A young Stephen Dorff and plenty of stop-motion animation makes this a classic.  I love the design of the demons.
7/10

Tales from the Crypt Season 1 9.5/10
Tales from the Crypt – Season 1; Ep1: The Man Who Was Death (1989, 26m)
Total Points: 1.5 (Takes place in Catacombs (opening Cryptkeeper sequence)
Great start to a great series.  Check out my full review for more details, but I would love to see this series restarted.

Tales from the Crypt – Season 1; Ep2: And All Through the House (1989, 22m)
Total Points: 1.5 (Takes place in Catacombs (opening Cryptkeeper sequence)
One of the most iconic episodes, due in part to Larry Drake’s portrayal of the killer dressed as Santa.  Good stuff.

Tales from the Crypt – Season 1; Ep3: Dig That Cat…He’s Real Gone (1989, 28m)
Total Points: 1.5 (Takes place in Catacombs (opening Cryptkeeper sequence)
Another great episode featuring great acting.  Notice a trend here?

Tales from the Crypt – Season 1; Ep4: Only Sin Deep (1989, 27m)
Total Points: 1.5 (Takes place in Catacombs (opening Cryptkeeper sequence)
It’s Pretty Woman, if Julia Roberts would have sold her beauty for a short term gain.

Tales from the Crypt – Season 1; Ep5: Lover Come Hack to Me (1989, 29m)
Total Points: 1.5 (Takes place in Catacombs (opening Cryptkeeper sequence)
This is my least favorite episode of the inaugural season, but it is still better than most dreck you find on TV these days.

Tales from the Crypt – Season 1; Ep6: Collection Completed (1989, 27m)
Total Points: 1.5 (Takes place in Catacombs (opening Cryptkeeper sequence)
Probably the most bizarre episode of the first season, which says a lot!  I thought the first half of the season was the strongest, but am looking forward to digging into Season 2.
